TRO HAS FOUND A New Meeting Place!
Thanks to a suggestion from Stan  Callahan, KA5STN, and some recon work by Ed Compos, K5CRQ, the TRO has booked the meeting space in the Delta Café, 11101 E 41st St (41st & Garnett) for the Christmas/Holiday Meeting next week on Tuesday December 20th and for the regular membership meeting Tuesday January 24, 2017.
#####
What’s In Your Junk Box?
Anything interesting?  Anything useful, but you haven’t had use of it for years?  Well, wrap it up in a nice package, and bring it to the TRO 2016 Christmas Party, 20 DEC, for our Junk Box Dirty Santa Gift Exchange.  This date is not our usual meeting date (the fourth Tuesday) but has been moved up a week because our usual date is two days after Christmas, and people will probably still be recovering from the holiday.  While this idea is not original to us, it sounded like fun when we heard of it, and decided to run with it!  So, if you haven’t looked in your junk box for a while, check it out, pick out an item, and contribute to the fun!
#####
TRO Bring-A-Friend Contest  SEP to DEC 2016
To help promote the club, we are having a Bring-A-Friend Contest through the months of September to December.  The TRO member who brings the most friends over that period will win a prize package consisting of a Yaesu FT-60R HT with a matching speaker mic and an aftermarket antenna.
All you have to do is show up, bring a friend (or two, or three, or four, or…), sign in, and make sure your friend signs in.  Secretary Doug Lee, KC5ZQM will keep track of the numbers from the sign in sheets.  The winner will receive the prize at the Christmas Party / December meeting.
We prefer that you bring potential members, such as hams or soon-to-be hams.
UPDATE: We had members bring friends to the September, October, and November meetings.  Two members are tied for the lead at two friends apiece, so the December meeting will be decision time!  If no one brings enough friends to break the tie, then we will have a drawing.
#####
What’s On The Program?
In order to make our meetings more fun, interesting, and useful for our members, the Executive Committee has decided to get back to having programs every month.  But we need your help.  Do you have an idea for a program?  If so, let us know!
Are you curious about some aspect of ham radio, and would like to see a program on the topic?  Let us know!
You don’t have to put on the program, but if you are able and willing to do so, that would be great!  Just tell us your idea, and we will work on putting it together.
The programs don’t have to be about ham radio.  Hams tend to be technical people, so anything technical or scientific will do.
By the way, we used to tour a TV or broadcast radio station, or the Tulsa EOC, or the NWS Office once a year, but we haven’t done that in about a decade.  Let us know if you would like to go on such a tour, and where.
Send you ideas to TRO Vice President Paul Young at ke5ehm@tulsahamradio.org.

TRO Looking For A New Meeting Place
Due to changes at Tally’s Cafe, we are looking for a new locaton for our meetings.  This month we will try out the Mazzio’s at The Farm Shopping Center, 51st & Sheridan.  It’s also buffet night!  We will also start the Bring-A-Friend Contest that night.  For more details on that, see the additional Featured Item.
The new location does not have to be an eatin’ place, and if not, it should be close to at least one good restaurant.  For a restaurant to work, it must have a separate room that isolates us from the noise of other customers, is centrally located in Tulsa, and should be able to handle 2 to 3 dozen people.  If anyone knows of a suitable location, please contact me or any TRO officer with details.

TRO Looking For A New Meeting Place
Due to changes at Tally’s Cafe, we are looking for a new locaton for our meetings.  We gave The Brook Restaurant, 34th & Peoria a try at the August membership meeting.  It worked out better than Tally’s, but we will continue to look for a new meeting site.
#####
What’s On The Program?
In order to make our meetings more fun, interesting, and useful for our members, the Executive Committee has decided to get back to having programs every month.  But we need your help.  Do you have an idea for a program?  If so, let us know!
Are your curious about some aspect of ham radio, and would like to see a program on the topic?

ARES-OK 2M FM Simplex Contest 1900 – 2000 (7 – 10 PM) Saturday 15 AUG 15
This contest helps us all be prepared in a number of ways: it gets us to know one another, allow for some friendly competition, and try out our emergency preparedness skills. Since this contest is limited to the 2M FM band, it does not require any fancy equipment and all can participate. The contest is just a short 3 hour time frame. This is a great time for all local area hams to participate and join in the activity!
Objectives: To make as many contacts as possible, encourage the use of 2M simplex mode, and to have fun!
The Hunter vs. the Hunted: Consider operating from a remote location, high point, or perhaps a roving mobile; Mobile stations are able to re-work stations from a different location
Frequencies: The contest will take place solely on 2 meter band using simplex mode; (e.g. no repeater contacts). According to the ARRL band plan, these frequencies (between 146.40-146.58 & 147.42-147.57) are for simplex use.
For more information about this event, and for the necessary log sheets, check this website: http://www.tulsa2metercontest.org/about.html.

Public Service Calendar Is Heating Up – Again!
Summer in Oklahoma means the temperatures increase to their highest levels of the year. It also means the public service opportunities increase as well. We have had a much needed, but unexpected, break in July. For the last 2 years, the TRO has supported the Center Of The Universe Music Festival, but we could not come to an agreement with the organizers on our duties. While we are sorry to miss this opportunity, we have other events coming up that we must focus on for now, and possibly find a way to get back to helping with the Center Of The Universe.
In August, on Friday, the 28th, we will provide safety, SAG and sweep support.for the Cystic Fibrosis Cycle For Life Nite Ride, a 20 mile fundraising bike ride mostly on the River Parks and Maple Ridge trails. The Start/Finish is at Guthrie Green this year because the River West Festival Park is under reconstruction until October.
In September, we see Dam Jam on the 12th,and Bike MS and Tulsa Bicycle Club Fall Century on the 26th. The Rogers County and Mayes County clubs will be taking the lead at Dam Jam, but TRO will support with volunteers and APRS equipment. Bike MS is a two day event, with the first day’s ride from Norman to Guthrie, and the second day’s ride is from Guthrie to Stillwater. The TRO is taking the lead on organizing comm support for these rides. The Tulsa Amateur Radio Club usually provides comm support for the Fall Century.
More details will come out soon concerning these events.

ARES-OK 2M FM Simplex Contest 1900 – 2000 (7 – 10 PM) Saturday 15 AUG 15
This contest helps us all be prepared in a number of ways: it gets us to know one another, allow for some friendly competition and try out our emergency preparedness skills.
For more information about this event, check this website: http://www.tulsa2metercontest.org/about.html.

Public Service Event Calendar Heating Up
In addition to the severe weather, hams in the Tulsa area have already seen 2 public service events (ArchiTread and Tour de Tulsa) and 2 public relations events (Wagoner County Preparedness Expo and Camp Bandage).  But those were just a warm up for the action we have on tap from now until the end of June.
Tour de Cure provides us a good tune up for the big one – Tulsa Tough!  Tour de Cure routes extend from Southeast Tulsa to the southeast, and the longest is 75 miles.  This one day event is a good opportunity to see how you and your equipment will perform in a longer event, with out going too long!  Tulsa Tough, on the other hand, is a two-day event with routes that run southwest, northwest and north of Tulsa, and the longest route is over 100 miles.  When you consider all the hills the riders have to climb, you can easily see why it’s called Tulsa Tough!  Fortunately, you can sign up to work one or both days, and some shorter assignments are available.
ARRL Field Day is the really big one!  This international event is also a hybrid event, combining a contest and a PR event with an emergency/disaster training exercise.  At this time, I am aware of only 4 Field Day operations planned for the Tulsa area.  Once again TARC and TRO will return to Chandler Park in West Tulsa, and BAARC will set up in the field north of Asbury United Methodist Church on Mingo, north of 71st.  A new one is the Broken Arrow Emergency Management Group, at the the new BA Public Service Complex, N 6th & Kenosha (71st).  The American Airlines club has their normal club meeting and test session scheduled for that day and they might set up an HF station afterwards on the grounds of the Martin East Regional Library, 26th & Garnett.
If you remember Modell Phipps, this reminds me of what he used to say – Busy, busy, busy!

Request For Feedback
For the Bulletin to continue to be the useful tool I intend it to be, I need your feedback. I need to know of any items that I should add, remove or change. I will consider all suggestions.
Plus any comments about the quality or the handling of the Bulletin will be appreciated.
Please send any comments, corrections, additions, etc., to kc5zqm@gmail.com. DO NOT send them as a reply to the WA5LVT Yahoo Group, unless you want the entire group to see them before I have a chance to review them.
